Retinal OCT Scans
Advanced Diagnostic For The Eyes
Our imaging technology can capture images from front of the eye, as well as the back part of the eye. This is a great tool used to monitor your eye health at every visit to detect any subtle changes. The advanced diagnostic tests at 1st Street & Village Eye Centres include visual field analysis, pachymetry & OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). Visual field analysis can detect changes in the optic nerve that indicate the progression of glaucoma, as well as several other neurological disorders. Pachymetry measures the corneal thickness. This measurement is commonly used in laser vision assessment and glaucoma management, diagnosing early cases of the disorder. OCT is used to monitor the retinal layers in conditions that include Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD).
It is important to keep in mind that in most cases, you will likely not experience any symptoms of an eye disorder until vision loss occurs. At this time, it may not be possible to restore the eyesight that has been lost. Thus, an annual eye exam is an essential part of your health and wellness. If you do experience any symptoms that may suggest that you are losing parts of your vision or if you are wanting to develop a long-term relationship with a caring optometrist, contact our Edmonton Optometrists or Sherwood Park Eye Clinic locations today. We will work together to provide you with comprehensive vision care services.
As well as using the OCT for the retina, it can also scan the optic nerve head as part of testing for glaucoma. There is another device called the perimeter which measure loss in your peripheral vision which can occur in glaucoma. Our perimeter testing is located at our North Edmonton Optometrist location.
