We Provide Eye Care For The Entire Family!

vision dimming 640×350 1. Village Eye Centre

At Village Eye Centre, our optometrists specialize in providing primary eye care for the whole family. This includes eye exams for both children and adults to check for overall eye health and visual clarity, as well as updating prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses so that your whole family can see clearly and comfortably every day.

Child’s Eye Care in North Edmonton

Our North Edmonton eye care team at Village Eye Centre recommends having your child’s first eye exam somewhere between 6 months and 1 year old. It’s recommended to then follow up with another exam around their third birthday, and once again around first grade. After that, your child should have an eye exam every year, before the school year starts.

Our optometrists recommend this exam schedule because it allows them to check your child’s eyes for certain diseases and eye conditions that may cause long-term harm to their vision if left undiagnosed and untreated. These conditions include crossed or lazy eyes and visual skill problems such as convergence insufficiency or issues with visual tracking.

Even if our eye doctors don’t find any problems with your child’s vision, it is still a good idea to see an eye doctor every year to ensure that their eyes remain healthy year-to-year.

Treatment for Eye Conditions and Diseases

When you come into our North Edmonton eye clinic, we’ll do a comprehensive eye exam that covers updates to your glasses or contact lens prescription as well as early detection and treatment of eye diseases or conditions that may cause damage to your eyes and vision without proper treatment.

In case of conditions such as cataracts, retinal detachment, or macular degeneration, surgery may become necessary to save your vision. In these cases, we’ll help co-manage your pre- and post-op care with local ophthalmologists to help you properly prepare before and quickly recover after your operation.

Q&A

How is lazy eye treated in children?

A lazy eye occurs when one eye is weaker than the other, causing the brain to ignore visual input from the weaker eye. It’s typically treated with glasses, patching, or eye drops to improve the visual acuity of the weaker eye and encourage the brain to use both eyes together.

How do I know if my baby is having trouble seeing?

Some signs that a baby may have vision problems include not making eye contact, excessive tearing, sensitivity to light, crossed or misaligned eyes, and not following objects with their eyes. The best way to be certain, however, is to bring your baby to an eye doctor for a comprehensive pediatric eye exam.
